What is USDT?
USDT (Tether USD) is a stablecoin issued by Tether Limited. Since its launch in 2014, it has become one of the highest-volume cryptocurrencies globally. USDT maintains a 1:1 peg to the US dollar, meaning 1 USDT always equals approximately $1 USD.
Unlike Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other volatile cryptocurrencies, USDT offers extreme price stability. This makes it the "safe haven" of the crypto world — no matter how wildly markets move, USDT holders maintain relatively stable asset values.
Major Uses of USDT
1. Trading Medium and Unit of Account
In crypto trading markets, USDT is the most important base currency for trading pairs. Nearly every cryptocurrency has a USDT trading pair (BTC/USDT, ETH/USDT, etc.). Using USDT for trading avoids the fees and complications of fiat currency transactions.
When you're bullish on a token but waiting for the right entry point, converting to USDT to "hedge" is one of the most common strategies among experienced traders.
2. Value Storage and Asset Preservation
During market downturns, converting crypto assets to USDT is an effective way to protect portfolio value. Compared to withdrawing to fiat currency, USDT can be instantly converted back to crypto assets without going through complicated withdrawal processes.
For users concerned about currency depreciation, holding USDT is equivalent to holding dollar-denominated assets — an effective hedge against local currency devaluation.
3. Cross-Border Transfers and Remittances
Traditional international wire transfers typically take 1-5 business days with fees of 1%-5% of the transfer amount. USDT transfers usually complete in minutes to hours, with extremely low fees (TRC-20 fees are only ~1 USDT).
This makes USDT a popular tool for international remittances, overseas living expense transfers, and cross-border business payments.
4. DeFi Ecosystem Participation
In decentralized finance (DeFi), USDT can be used for liquidity mining, lending protocols, yield aggregators, and more — earning additional yield without taking on price volatility risk. Current mainstream DeFi USDT annual yields typically range from 3%-15%.
5. Binance Earn and Staking
On Binance, you can deposit USDT into various financial products to earn interest, including flexible savings, fixed-term deposits, and dual investment products. Compared to traditional bank savings, Binance USDT financial products typically offer more competitive annual yields.
Choosing USDT Blockchain Networks
USDT runs on multiple blockchain networks, each with different speeds and fees:
- TRC-20 (Tron): Lowest fees (~1 USDT), fast speed, ideal for daily transfers, most popular option
- ERC-20 (Ethereum): Widest support, but higher gas fees, suitable for large transfers
- BEP-20 (Binance Smart Chain): Low fees, convenient within the Binance ecosystem
- Solana (SOL): Extremely low fees, ultra-fast transaction speed
- Polygon: Ethereum sidechain, low fees, rich DeFi ecosystem

USDT Safety Guidelines
- Verify Addresses: Double-check the recipient address before every transfer — crypto transactions are irreversible
- Network Matching: Ensure the transfer network matches the receiver's supported network
- Test Transfers: Always send a small test amount before large transfers
- Avoid Scams: Don't believe "high-yield no-risk" USDT investment schemes
- Diversify Storage: Don't keep all USDT on a single platform
- Use Regulated Platforms: Choose compliant exchanges like Binance
